Tuesday, October 5th – Bora Bora! How awesome! We met Jane and Terry on Cruise Critic before the cruise. They had rented a car several months ahead and invited us to share the day and their car with them. We had already decided we liked both Jane and Terry when we first met them so we were eager to explore the island with them. Jane called us the crazy lovebirds.
It was also a stroke of luck (okay, good planning) on their part to already have a car because there were 2 cruise ships in port that day and less than 20 cars available for rent. When we picked up the rental car we asked about putting gas in it and were told that the gas stations were on strike and you couldn't buy gas, but the tank was partially full which was enough gas to around the island at least 7 times. It was nice not having to pay to fill the gas tank!
Bill made 8 small ham sandwiches in the breakfast buffet (didn't put condiments on them, put the mayonnaise and mustard separate) and bagged them in Ziploc bags before getting off the ship. Jane and Terry were pleased that we didn't have to pay the island prices for lunch. Hamburgers in most places here started around $23.00.
