Whilst perhaps not as well known as the Eiffel Tower & the Arc de Triomphe, Les Invalides never less makes a notable mark on the Paris skyline with it's fantastic gold dome.
This place was once a hospital, but now it's a museum and under the dome site lies the tomb of Napoleon.
The dome design was meant to mimic the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, which was designed by Michelangelo. In turn, it is said that the architect of the U.S capitol, Thomas U. Walter, was inspired by this dome in his design of the capitol. Kind of like an early form of scraplifting, I guess;)
Thankyou Cindy for the fleur-de-lis chippie. I painted it gold along with the DA scroll I had in my stash. The grey flower is Pink Paislee and I made the other two. And I did a bit of stencling & punchwork.
TFL.
