Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Playa Del Carmen. One of my "funnier" experiences was having spider monkeys on our heads there. I know it is touristy but it was so funny. I do agree about the shops. Love the bg paper on this LO - very Hispanic looking. The church is gorgeous. Mexico sure knows how to build a gorgeous church.
So sorry you didn't care for PDC. Did you go down 5th Avenue and the beach area? We love that area. Great resorts, entertainment and restaurants. There are tons of things to see and do in that area. Might have to give it another chance. ;)
Sunday, September 18th, 2011 – after digging up turtles after around 7:30 and then and quick swim n the resort pool, we jumped on a bus to Playa Del Carmen. We had fun but the heat was diabolical. We were not impressed with Playa Del Carmen and would not recommend that anyone go there. It was like a new flea market with shop after shop of the same junk. There were a few shops with some nice things, but for the most part, it was flea market quality. We looked for a gold turtle pendant or charm but every turtle in Playa Del Carmen looked like it was made of metal and painted yellow-gold. I would go as far as to say they were actually ugly!
The highlight of the day was eating at Burger King because it was mildly air conditioned.
We didn't stay very long – this just wasn't our favorite place.
Our flight was scheduled to leave in 3 days. Uh oh….. now we have a problem!
