When we were near the seawall we could see our ship sitting majestically in the water framed by the beautiful snow-capped mountains. We were amused by so many local Russian people taking pictures in front of the ship. In particular, we noticed a bride and groom having their photos taken with the ship in the background.

We approached them and congratulated them but they did not understand a word of English. However, one young woman in the wedding party understood a few words and enjoyed trying to converse with us. When we told them we were traveling on that ship, the bride and groom handed us their camera and wanted to have their picture taken with us. Then I held up my camera so the bride and groom could see that I wanted to take a picture of them and they smiled and he kissed his new bride for the picture.

After the picture session they walked across to the statue with all the locks on the railing. I got excited, as I wanted a picture of them securing their lock but they didn't go that far, they just got in their car and drove away. Later, when I exchanged photos on my computer with others on the ship I was delighted to find a photo of one of our fellow passengers posing next to the statue and in the background – the newlyweds were next to the locks. They were holding their lock and were going to put it on the railing!

The only American product or business I recognized in this Russian city was Gold's Gym.
