Give a Cheer
Hello and a very Happy Easter to all! I hope you are all enjoying your day. I would like to introduce you to Gulliek Knutsen, my husband's paternal great-grandfather and husband to Gjertrude Olsdatter-Fretheim (the winning LO of the March Heritage Challenge). Gulliek was born in 1858 in Voss, Norway. When he was 27, he married Gjertrude (she was 25). They immigrated to the United States, but I do not have any information as to when and where they started out. They had six children. Unfortunately at the very young age of 65 Gulliek passed away. Gjertrude lived on until the age of 81. I do not have any information as to where they settled, but they are buried in New Auburn, WI. After the success of Gjertrude's page, I was very inspired with this LO and tried to make it as a compliment to her page. I'm unaware of Gulliek's personality or his hobbies, but based on the his photo, I was drawn to design it using lots of writing paraphernalia. Family information is written on the distressed piece of paper tucked into the envelope.
I used many affects to create this page - a lot of it made from scratch. The very top image was used with a foam stamped with dark brown ink. I then took gold paint to highlight the curves of the scroll work. On the bottom section of the "collar" I used those awesome painter's pants once again. I cut off the hem of the legs and spritzed it with glimmer mist. I also spritzed the lace for the bow tie. The envelope was handmade using brown package wrapping paper. I distressed it by wrinkling it into a ball and then smoothing it out. I then used brown ink to distress the creases. The nib is from a very sweet person from my past. She loved to write calligraphy and I was blessed to have received several of her pens and nibs when she passed. I thought using one on this LO was appropriate. The cufflink at the top was one I found in my stash of buttons--not sure where it came from, but it worked perfect here. I used another little bit of lace from the same piece I used of Gjertrude's, stickling it to match hers. That terrific lamp came from my partner in scrapbooking, Lauri D (Thanks Sweetie). That lamp is embossed on black paper. I added the liquid pearls to the shade. The stick pin is one I made, simply using beads, sewing stick pin, and ribbon. The Norwegian postage stamps came from my cousin in Norway who sent us a Christmas card this past year.
