Wow Natalie...this is just amazing!!! I love how you use the antique fabrics on your layouts and the tatted lace is beautiful! Such a sweet photo and a wonderful story!! Beautiful layout!!
Beautiful page. I dont know why i didnt comment on this earlier. Wonderful photo and story, a fitting tribute . Love how you used the antique materials! How did you do that with the modeling paste?
Hmmmmm... I could have SWORN I commented on this treasure already....but I haven't?!?!? Maybe I was shocked into jaw-dropping, no typing silence....because this is a vintage masterpiece! I always look forward to all the uploads of your heritage pages, Natalie!! AMAZING. fave.
I must confess that I've been coming back to this over and over taking in all of your details and techniques and the wonderful story behind your layout. I'm still awestruck by it all, so will simply say "Stunning" and hope that you realize how much I love what you've done here!!!!
Natalie, you have put so much love into this LO! I thoroughly enjoyed the use of antique baby clothes and am amazed by the way you cut them and arranged them on the page! Mostly, I'm awe struck by your work with molding paste to represent the whirlygigs! MAGNIFICENT WORK!
Love this beautiful layout...all the gorgeous techniques and layers...love the textured look...it makes me want to touch it..beautiful..a winner! Very sweet tribute to cute little Freddie.
Oh, I always love when you give the story behind your fantastic pages!
And this one, though sad, is also so encouraging! Another precious memory in your collection :-)
WOW, WOW, & Triple WOW!!!!!! What a GREAT old photo & GORGEOUS design Natalie!!!! I am so loving all the texture & layers Girl!!! FABULOUS work & a big time fav for me!!!!
this is so beautiful, Natalie! Love the details and the meaning behind them...so sad that Freddie was crippled by polio. Beautiful use of the vintage lace and fabric...love it!
This is gorgeous!!!! Bless Freddies heart with the horrible polio...something you really dont hear about much these days...love the antique elements... colors...love this and your story too!!!!
The colours you used add a cool (almost wintery) look to the page, but the photo and stunning design add warmth, which makes for a beautiful contrast and and a gorgeous layout! The "whirly" sympbolism in this layout is poetry on paper! Fave. for sure!
This is my Father's cousin, Freddie, the boy with a curl right in the middle of his forehead!! Freddie sits decked out on a lovely wicker chair, so pretty in his finery, and even wearing a little bracelet! And of course there is that sweet curl right in the middle of his forehead!
The photograph was tiny, and it has a crack running down one side of Freddie's face, but it translated well as an enlargement.
Freddie contracted childhood polio and spent the rest of his life on crutches. He supported himself making "whirlygigs" for people's gardens and houses.
As a gesture of respect for Freddie's courage in building a life for himself despite his handicap, I created this page that pays homage to his adult vocation as a woodworker who created artful "whirlys."
I made a frame with molding pastes and sprays that feature 2 large whirlygigs spinning in opposite corners. There are also 3 little whirlygigs in the upper left corner of the page. Although Freddie made many different types of whirlygigs, I chose to make little circles for this baby layout. Oftentimes Freddie made bird whirlys, and the birds on this page are nod to that.
I also used pieces of old antique baby clothes and tatting from old dresses, and old beads to further enhance this baby layout.
This is my submission for the April Heritage challenge, the twist being use a baby picture.
