I know this photo is blurry but by the time I knew that it was too late to retake it. It is the story that is more important anyway. For years I had wanted to be tested so I could donate stem cells but I could never figure out how to go about doing it. I asked people but no one ever seemed to know. I looked online but never found enough information to figure out exactly what to do. I always figured though that it would be complicated and would require testing at a hospital. A couple weeks ago I phoned about donating blood. I am on lifelong meds and wanted to know if I could still donate (I can!). While on the phone I asked about donating stem cells. I was told to go to a website called OneMatch. All I had to do was fill out an online form. It asked a few basic questions, mostly about health. Then a few days later I got a call to verify my information and then they sent me a kit in the mail. It contained 4 swabs and all I had to do was swab my cheek (like you see on CSI lol) and put the swabs in the prepaid envelope and send it back. I am now in the registry that is accessed worldwide. My reason for posting this isn`t to be pushy but just to let anyone who ever thought of doing it know that it really is this easy. The form I filled out asked if I had anything else to say and I wrote that they need to add into their advertising how easy it is to do. I think more people would do it if they realized. The OneMatch site might be just for Canadians (I am not sure) but the process should be just as simple wherever you are. TFL
