We left at least an hour before the ship's excursion and found the traffic very slow and heavy but we were making okay time. We had been on the road for awhile when the ship's tour buses caught up with us. The reason they go so fast is they put a police car in front with lights and sirens, then the 8 tour buses, then a police car with siren going the entire time in behind the last bus. The police car in the front and in the back have bullhorns and constantly tell everyone to get away from the buses, to pull over to the side of the road.

If traffic is heavy going in the direction the buses are going, the police officers make everyone pull over so the buses can travel in the oncoming traffic lane. Traffic has to pull over or have head-on collisions with the buses!

When the buses passed us our driver got behind the police car and we followed the rest of the way. We made great time then, as the police cars and buses cleared the way and we kept up with the last police car. Our driver was very good and didn't let anyone else cut in.

When we got there one of the police officers who was with the caravan of buses approached us and told us there were 5 police officers in their car and the other car had 4 officers and asked if he could ride back with us, since we so much room in our minivan. We told him we'd be happy to have him ride back with us. He said we would be put with the ship's caravan and we would get back the same time they did, the ship would not leave us so we could spend more time at Borobudur.
