We had a very nice time exploring Borobudur although I didn't go all the way to the top. My knees were not up to that workout – especially since it was very high and some of the steps were 18” apart with no handrails. I cannot easily step that high going up and have an even harder time going down! Our tour got half-way up and I told Bill I was going to make my way down. I felt like I could make it to the top but I wasn't so sure about the back-down part.

I explored several levels and then went back to the ground level to sit on a park bench. Bill went all the way to the top to take pictures for us. When I got to the bottom I took off my sarong and put it in my backpack and forgot about it.

When everyone else came down they collected their batik sarongs and since I was no longer with the group mine got overlooked and I forgot to turn it in.

We wanted to leave to go back as soon as we came down from the temple (we still had about 4 hours to get back) but the police officer asked us to wait until the tour buses were ready to go back and promised the ship would not leave us, as we would get there when the buses did. Since he was going to ride with us we waited like he asked.

While we waited we shopped in the little souvenir market until all the tour bus passengers finished their tours of the temple.

The cruise ship excursion included a big buffet luncheon on the grounds near the temple. We joined them at the tables and waited while the hundreds of passengers got their food and ate but we refused any food, as we did not pay for it. Bill bought us a Coke each and some snacks so we were fine.

Our minivan was placed behind the last bus and before the police escort so we were part of the ship's excursion going back and we made it in less than 2 hours! All the way back the police lights flashed in front and in back of our caravan, the sirens blared and the officers barked on the bullhorn to make everyone pull over out of the way for our caravan of buses.

All aboard was at 5:30, but we didn't return to the ship with the 8 tour buses until 6:00. The ship was waiting for us and left shortly after we were all safely on board.

That night when I unpacked our backpack I was surprised to find that I still had my sarong I had worn at the temple – I had put it in my backpack and forgotten it.
