This layout is of a photo from an album my mother did during her teen years through her early years of teaching. The lack of journaling in this album leaves many unanswered questions for me and this is true of this photo. My own hidden journaling is on the back of the tag, a beautiful gift from my secret sister. Because some of it is too personal, I will not share it here but wanted my children to know the stories my elderly aunt told me of my mother who never told me some things I really would have loved for her to have shared with me. I told of my regret at not asking more questions of my mom and of my aunt before she began to experience memory loss. The title reflects my lack of even knowing where "downtown" was in this photo. The photo was probably taken in 1933 or 1934.
This is my entry in the Rockin Scrapin Grans challenge to do a layout using only black & white. I used sketch 193 from Creative Scrappers as my inspiration.

WOW!!!!! This is such a stunning eye catcher Ann! A beautiful old photo perfectly scrapped! Fav for me!
I too regret not asking my parents more questions & it's to late now. My dgd Ashley lost her other grandmother to cancer a while back & I advised her to ask lots of questions before it was too late.

I'm really sorry that you didn't get to talk to your Aunt about your Mom more before her memory loss. This is a very elegant, beautiful page. You did a wonderful job Ann!

Beautiful! I love the background with the tag. Guess we scrap so our children and grandchildren have more information than we did.

It's a beautiful page in the black and white, and so very elegantly scrapped!! I find it amazing that there are some things we will never know about our parents, aunts, uncles....because no one thought to ask when they were still alive. Or if they were still alive, we didn't ask the most important questions, or memory loss took over and they were unable to answer....anyway, it's great you were able to journal about your regrets etc...a very lovely layout!!!

Oh how lovely......and I adore the photo. I too, wish I had asked more questions.......and written down some of the things that she shared with me on many different times.....that I now wish I knew more about. This is a lovely page and you have made a wonderful heirloom for your family!

I really love this and loved reading your description regarding the photo. It is a great vintage photo and perfect for the challenge. I love the tag your secret sister sent you and am glad you were able to journal on the back. I wish I had asked my mom more questions also before she died. The page design is wonderful!
