beautiful flowers. I love what you wrote, "It's so exciting to see people that are related but you've never met. I think it makes them seem like people and not just names." I totally agree. Wonderful way to personalize the past
what a great peice of family history. I love that you are finding out so much about your family. I find it facinating. For reason none of my sister and I can come up with our mother asked that we not research our families past....she said it doesn't matter where we have been....I disagree...but have never dwelved into it.
Yes, I am doing genology work on my family and I see that people would name a child after a deceased child. And the repeat names from generation to generation makes me crazy. Great Heritage LO, caught my eye!
terrific heritage page and what an awesome photo! That whole family name tradition can be so frustrating...while tracing my family and trying to identify the subjects of the photos, I came across so many Charleses, Roses, and Georges...confusing! The information you included here is so interesting; I can tell you've been doing a lot of research!
How neat to know so much about your family and have a photo from this era! You did a beautiful job of scrapping this photo! I love the heritage layouts too although I have never tried to do one.
My Grandfather's dad and his siblings and parents. Klaas and Gertruda Dick had a total of ten children, only seven are pictured as three died in infancy. All ten were: Gertrude, Gertrude, Johann, Heinrich, Klaus, Klaus, Katherine, Claus, Cornelius, and Dietrich. Now those aren't typing errors. My family's background is Dutch and German. I'm not sure if it is a Dutch or German tradition or if it's Mennonite but they will name a child the same name as a baby that's died. So Klaus and Klaus lived 1885-1885 and 1886-1886. Both died and so the next son born was named Claus. See it's fun to study Mennonite ancestry they're so inventive with naming. The sons would have their father's first initial and the girl's their mothers. I've seen an ancester with his name the same as his father's so Gerhard and then with G as his middle initial. So uncles, cousins, and grandfathers can have the same exact name. You get this going for several generations with both males and females and let the frustrating search begin. I want to find my ancestor's gravestones take pictures and make a scrapbook page of those but I must make sure I have the right dates as there are over a dozen stones with the same names. I included a pull out tag to this layout with the dates of all ten children. I don't want the three infants to be forgotten, I doubt they have stones nor do I know where they are buried. Klaas and Gertruda immigrated to the USA around 1875 and met and married a few years later. My best guess on photo date is probably around 1900 or so based upon age of the kids, which I am terrible at estimating. My direct ancestor is Claus the one to the far left. I already scrapped his wedding photo. His wife and her family are next.
