Warning---this is an unpleasant story, but thankfully has a very happy ending.
This is Joey. He is a 5-6 month old puppy that was used as a bait dog. When it was discovered that he didn't have the temperment for fighting, he was put in a black plastic garbage bag and thrown out the window of a moving car. Thankfully, a passing motorist heard his cries and called the authorities. He was sent to an animal emergency hospital where he was found to have a broken neck (in 3 places), bite wounds on his neck and a skin infection on his paws. It was uncertain whether he would ever regain the use of his legs. He was malnourished, 20 pounds underweight and full of fleas. Fast forward 2 months and although he still has more healing to do, he has made a remarkable recovery and was adopted by the vet that saved his life.
Just a few weeks ago, I was one of many that had the priveledge of meeting Joey just before he went to his forever home. It was amazing to see this beautiful spirit in person. He was gentle and sweet and loving and obviously forgiving towards humans. I'm not sure I myself would be able to forgive the treatment he endured. He is a lesson in forgiveness we could all learn from.

Wonderful story and what a sweet looking dog! My son's PitBull Indy changed my mind about this breed of dogs. I also read "Lost Dogs and their tale of rescue and redemption" by Jim Gorant. This is about Mike Vick's dog. Thanks for sharing!

I'm always so happy to hear the stories that have happy endings. It's horrifying what people do to some dogs. I'm very happy to hear that he is now on the road to recovery and will soon have this event behind him. Super cute LO for such a great story!

Such a happy ending to a horrendous start in life. I too have a former bait dog, my daughter 'removed' her from the 'home' she lived in. Jazzmin is now a very loved and spoiled pooch!
Your LO is so cute, so cute!

That just makes me mad all over!!!! Just can't imagine anyone so cruel. I know it's not politically correct, but I wish the same treatment given to every abused animal right back on their abuser!! OK, I'll get off my soapbox now. Joey's pages are wonderful. Love the masculine industrial style you chose. So glad his story had a happy ending (beginning?).

OMG - how in the world can people be so CRUEL??? Sounds like Joey is a survivor with a gentle heart - one that can continue to heal with LOTS of love. I am so happy to learn that Joey found a forever home. What a wonderful lo you have created to honor this sweet soul. TFS.
