We had a wonderful vacation in Hawaii but Bill had more than his share of medical issues:
When we arrived in Hawaii on January 18th Bill had a fever blister on the lower left side of his lip and his lip was slightly swollen.
Just a few nights later we were in bed when he jumped up at 2:00AM because “something” bit him on the upper left side of his lip. The “something” turned out to be a centipede which was approximately 6” long. We know that because we found him under the cover at the foot of our bed. In addition to the two “fang” marks, it left his upper lip very swollen.
Two days later Bill was swimming and somehow a Man-of-War not only found Bill, but managed to located one of his tentacles on the right side of Bill's upper lip and leaving him with a minor sting and some swelling.
Then on February 4th, after all the lip injuries and swelling were finally over Bill told me we had to go to the emergency room. His lips and part of one side of his face were starting to swell and he had quickly developed some type of hives or bumps on one side of his neck. Of most concern, his throat was starting to constrict.
The doctors immediately asked him what medications he took and when he told them Lisinipril, they said that was most likely the problem, which turned out to be exactly what was wrong! After taking Lisinipril for about 20 years, he had developed a reaction to it so we stayed in the emergency room where he was given epinephrine twice and kept on oxygen while they continued to measure his heart rate, blood pressure and other vitals.
They wanted to keep him overnight but he convinced them to let him escape about 2AM if we promised to bring him back if symptoms started to return.
