Beautiful LO - so lovely that your mom saved this letter and poem all these years and that you now have it - I'm so glad that you didn't put anything on this page - how difficult it must have been for your mom and all the other women who were hoping and waiting for their men to return home to them ~
Awesome!!! I did something similar but with a copy of the a picture of my grandfather sitting a desk and found dog tags on line had dups made and put in a shadow box for family members... He was on Admiralty Islands in the Navy I am sure your dad had stopped at that island ...love your lo such a sweet thing and really a part of history!!!
This is a layout I created for the No Pic challenge. The letter is from my dad who was in the Navy stationed aboard ship in the south Pacific during WWII. It was written to my mom in March of 1945 and included the following poem. I don't think it's original but haven't found any info on it yet.
Dearest Kitty: Dear God, watch over her for me, That she may safely guarded be. Help her each lonely hour to bear, As I would, Lord, if I were there. When she is sleeping, watch her then, That fear may not her dreams offend. Be ever near her through the day, Let naught but goodness come her way. Sweet faithful one, she waits for me, Beyond the wide and spacious sea. Be merciful, oh Lord, I pray, Take care of her while I'm away. Love, Your Russ
