We had a large load of license plates in our van to deliver to one of Bill's customers in Phoenix, Arizona on July 7th, the day before my 63rd birthday.
His client told us that he gambled frequently at the Wild Horse Pass Casino in Chandler, AZ which was only a few miles away and because he was such a good customer of the casino they often gave him complimentary vouchers for rooms at the hotel. Since he lived minutes away from the hotel he never used the vouchers and offered to give two of the complimentary nights to us.
The Wild Horse Pass is a Sheraton hotel and in keeping with Sheraton's reputation, everything was perfect. We arrived the night of the 7th and had a light dinner at the hotel. The next day was my birthday and we just chilled and relaxed in the beautiful room. Bill went to the pool in the afternoon while I got ready for dinner.
We had dinner at Shula's which was located in the hotel. One of the best steaks I've ever had in my life!
As soon as they seated us they put a “Happy Birthday” brass table decoration on the edge of our table. Then they brought us a football which seemed kind of odd, and then they showed us that the variety of steaks was printed on the side of the football.
Next a tray of raw steaks was brought to us and our server explained the different cuts of steak. After we chose what kind of steaks we wanted (we picked rib-eyes), we received our fried calamari appetizer. The steaks took a little time to prepare but worth every second of the wait. These were melt-in-your-mouth steaks!
Then they asked if I was ready for my complimentary fudge and raspberry 7-layer birthday cake but we told our server there was no way we could eat another bite so she boxed it for us – along with a birthday candle!
We didn't spend much time in the casino but did walk away with 10 cents! At least we left ahead!
Bethany Winkler, from my Flappers scrapbooking group, made the Birthday card for me several years ago.
One funny thing did happen at the restaurant - we were waiting for our steaks when something flew across the room and landed on the center of our table! They staff came over and apologized profusely! One of the wine steward uncorked a bottle of champagne for a couple at another table and the cork got away from them! We thought it was funny so it was no problem.
