Dustin and I were up at 9 am so we could shower, dress, and head out the door. We said our goodbyes to Kara and Robert as they were heading home today. We hit the road to Baltimore. We originally planned to spend the day at the zoo but decided to change things up a bit. We drove to the Inner Harbor, parked in a garage, then walked over to Camden Yards to get tickets for the ballpark tour and walk through the souvenir shop for Dustin. Our tour started at 1 pm promptly outside the souvenir shop. Our guide was Rudy and he was very informative. At the entrance is the original road for the rail station before the park was built. Every time a home run is hit and it hits the street or old railroad building, the spot is marked for the end of the season, so they can cut a hole in the ground to put a memorial plaque in its place. From there, we went down to the dugouts, took pictures, and walked the edge of the field. We weren't allowed to touch the grass because it has to be perfect for the games (baseball regulation) and the ground crews are very particular. We walked through the umpire tunnel but weren't allowed to see the locker rooms because the players have their personal items in there and the players were getting ready for a game. We went to the press boxes, the radio announcer rooms, and the TV/communications rooms for all the stat boards and scroll boards around the field. We also went up to the club levels and the owners suites. This field and stadium is beautiful!
After the tour was over we walked back down to the Inner Harbor for lunch at the Hard Rock Café. I had twisted macaroni chicken and cheese and Dustin had a pulled pork sandwich, heavy metal wings, and a Hard Rock Hurricane. It was all very delicious. Dustin was even allowed to keep his Baltimore Hurricane Glass.
After lunch, we re-parked the car in the parking lot we reserved by the baseball field for the Baltimore Orioles vs. Tampa Bay Rays game. When we arrived the Orioles were in the middle of batting practice but we weren't allowed go to our seats yet. At 5:30 pm they opened the doors so we could sit in our seats, Section 68, Row 1, Seats 1 and 2 on the 3rd base line. When we got to our seats, the Rays were involved in batting practice. Towards the end of their practice they hit a ball in our area and I caught it!
The game started at 7:05 pm and it was 80 degrees but very pleasant. The game went really fast but it was a great game. In the bottom of the 8th, Matt Weiters from the Orioles hit a home run down the 3rd base line, scoring 2 runs, winning the game because Tampa couldn't score any runs in the 9th. The final score was Baltimore 4, Tampa Bay 2.
This was a great day! Dustin and I thoroughly enjoyed spending a day together doing our thing!
