Journaling reads: What a gorgeous day to visit the catch and release pond at Platte River State Park. Reagan has been asking to go fishing since the middle of winter and today the weather was perfect for her first trip! I am not sure she knew what she was getting herself into, because even though Kadie was not scared of the worms at all Reagan wanted NOTHING to do with them. She waited patiently for the fish to bite but after about ten minutes found chasing the geese a lot more interesting. The fish were slow to start biting but after about thirty minutes we caught our first fish and soon word must have traveled in the pond that we had yummy worms because the fish were biting away. We caught some bass and blue gill, seven fish in all. Both Kadie and Reagan were willing to touch the fish and even try to hold them by their mouth until one flipped out of daddy's hand and startled mommy, making her scream. Reagan's favorite part was the release. She yelled “Bye fishy!” and waved as the fish swam off in the water. One of the fish Kadie caught was injured by a hook and died before we got him back in the water. She was so sad and wanted to take the fish to the doctor to make him all better. Such a tender heart!
