Joe had brain surgery on Monday morning and his birthday was the following weekend. His friends really wanted to see that he was okay so we decided he would have a small birthday party on Sunday night. I made a huge baked ziti casserole to feed everyone and his best friend, Angie (from Atlanta - she is on the far left) made this fabulous red velvet cake. The best red velvet cake I've ever had!

Joe held up really well for the party. It was at 6:00 and he was ready to go to bed around 8:00. I think he did amazing for just getting home from the day before him home so the party was the next day. The surgery was actually on Monday but after he was released from the hospital on Thursday we spent Thursday and Friday nights in a hotel in St. Petersburg so we would be close to the hospital for a few days. When he had his birthday party he had been home less than 24 hours.

Angie was staying in our guest house which is between our house and Joe's house so she helped get ready for the party and cleaned up after the party. She's the daughter I never had so her mother shares her with me!

You can tell by the picture that Joe is started to really get tired and was ready for bed. Everyone left right after eating cake.
