Tuesday, April 23, 2013 – Port day in Ajaccio (A-jaa-see-oh), Corsica. Very interesting place – we were only in the port a short time; the cruise ship had all aboard at 1:30 so we had time to take the tourist train to see the main sights and then walk around town for a few minutes before going back to the ship.

The French emperor Napoléon Bonaparte was born in 1769 in the Corsican capital of Ajaccio. His ancestral home, Casa Buonaparte, is today used as a museum. We were told that he was entombed in Corsica but after research when we got home we found out that isn't true – he is actually buried in Paris. I was glad the tourist train took us to the memorial park where we could see his monument but I wish they had not led us to believe he was buried there.

Funny story for today – we were having breakfast this morning and I wanted more grape juice. Bill went to beverage station to get more grape juice for me but found that the dispensers at that beverage station didn't have labels telling what kind of juice was inside. The labels on the machines are changed after each meal because the beverages offered are different (a variety of juices for breakfast - tea and lemonade for lunch and dinner).

Rather than walk to another juice station across the room he asked one of the buffet attendants which dispenser had grape juice because they weren't labeled. He showed Bill which one contained grape juice and said, “I will put the label on it” and he put one on that said “grapefruit juice”. Bill told him that was not correct and he told Bill, “Yes sir, it is correct. This is grape FRUIT juice”. Bill tried to get him to understand that Grape Fruit juice and Grapefruit juice are not the same; grape juice was purple and grapefruit was kind of yellow and grapefruit was actually the name of a citrus fruit.

Later that morning we noticed that the dispenser with grape Fruit juice in it still had the label that said, “Grapefruit juice”.
