I know how you feel. Just take it one "bite" at a time. What I have been doing is grabbing a handful (ok arms-full) of stuff out of the room sorting it, then bringing it back into the room. It helps me see past the initial shock. I am working on my room right now too. Except I didn't have that gorgeous paper rack you have. I have to make vertical storage for my papers using pizza boxes.
Wow. Get yourself an empty box and put it in the middle of the room. This is your give-away box. This relieves the pressure of "you must" find a spot for every single thing. As you grow, you'll find that your tastes change and you've moved on from certain things. Having someplace to go with these things (the empty box) will help things move along easier. You also need to have a trashbag handy as well. Just think of the secret forgotten treaxures you'll find!
Like I told myself when I was organizing my craft room.....an hour at a time or a shelf at a time. That's all I expected myself to do and it helped me to not get too overwhelmed in the process. You can do it and just think of all the "new" things you will find!
Well, we are going to do it together Peggy! You are not alone. I'm doing the course too and my room is just as bad! Plus I have boxes of supplies I still have not unpacked from our move - 3 years ago!! And I cannot get rid of them sight unseen just because I haven't used them. I have been sick and out of commission since our move - those boxes have many treasured items in them I have not been able to use. But I can't wait to go through everything in my room and those boxes, get rid of what I don't use anymore, organize what I do want - and get to work creating again!! WE CAN DO IT!!
I admire your courage to post this. My space once looked like this but I wouldn't have shown a picture to anyone! I'm part way 'there', having sorted like things into piles as I attack one area at a time. And I use Dwelch's idea of rewarding myself when I accomplish something. I need to be creative, but I need to be organized, too. Taking things in small steps works toward the being organized (which is necessary to my sanity), but taking breaks to reward myself with scrapping refreshes, uplifts and encourages me to dig into another pile. It's really a symbiotic process. Take a deep breath and just start sorting. Keep at it untiil you feel the stress level rising, then take a break and come back later. You'll get there and be amazed at how soon that is!
Hang in there. You can do this. Just pick one section at a time. Set a timer and race against it. I like your cozy space and can't wait to see it when it's done.
Put like things together in pretty color coordinated boxes, use big pretty lables on your clear see through totes and put a picture or something you love and will inspire you into your space, it looks like a great space...make it reflect your personality...being creative gets messy sometimes,... but hey,...it's fun gett'n there...
What a beautiful room with windows! I have an area rather than a room. You are braver than I am. congratulations on being able to post your room. I can't bring myself to post online, but feel just as overwhelmed as you do. Here is hoping the class works! I know I am not even sure where to start with my piles. I did clear enough space to make the layout and I have been working on the chart. On the plus side - I have categorized myself as a digger and a sorter! You can do it
I am sitting among a messy scrap room myself...but I am going to clean it now because it is one hot mess! Lol! Did a bunch of los and I'm not a neat scrapbooker to begin with and after 4 los its just a disaster!
I totally agree with Grammacreates. Take Jill's free 27 lessons of Getting Organized. It breaks it up into one portion per week (and you can do it at your own pace). I am just now redoing my room and using these lessons. You can do this! Several of us are doing the same thing. Just keep posting.
Hello. Looks like a wonderful place to spend lots of extra time but it cant be much fun in there while the room is in that condition. STOP buying and STOP draggin stuff in there that doesnt belong. :o/ Think of all the HAPPY creating you will do once its all tidy AND youll be so proud of what it looks like. Wish I could come help you sort it and organize it. Then Id spend some time playing with you. Like Larry the cable guy says, Get er done. Happy 2014 to you. Ro
Yes you can do it. Set little goals like I'll put stuff away for 10 minutes or every time I go in room I have to put one thing away. You will be amazed at how quickly you'll get it done.
I just moved my scrap room to a new room.So it got a cleaning. It will make you feel great when everything is the right place and clean.I still need to post pics of my new space.Good luck.
You can do this, just don't get frustrated. Think of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow when you are finished. Your creative juices will flow so
much better in a clean organized room. Take Jill's free 27 lessons of Getting Organized. You can find it under the classes heading at the top of the page. I wish you good luck and can't wait to see the finished photo.
Whoa...yes, I would be overwhelmed, too. But D gave you some very good advice, and I'm glad you came to us for accountability. Send me a PM w/what your goal is for today, or this morning, or the next 15 min. -- whatever you think will work best for you -- then report back, maybe w/a pic of the "real estate" you gained. HANG IN THERE and KEEP DIGGING FOR "GOLD"!!!
Can't wait to see your "after" photos! You can ABSOLUTELY do it! You have a ton of great supplies - just keep in mind how it will feel to be able to put your finger on exactly what you need when you need it! Don't try to do everything at once, break it into small goals such as, "During the month of January I will concentrate on organizing my paper", etc. Then treat yourself each time you reach a goal!
Feeling so very vulnerable, I am posting this "before" pic of my out-of-control craftroom. I'm hoping this is the push that I need to get this under control. Ladies, I put my trust in your hands to encourage me to get this done!!
