We jumped back on US I-10 after Orange. It was flat, windy and the only thing we saw was cows and hay fields with a few bayous thrown in. Near the town of Anahuac, we saw signs for the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge and we followed them. The town of Anahuac was established 1831 and claims alligators outnumber humans. Outside the town, we found the Anahuac NWR Headquarters and Visitor Center. We looked at the displays and watched a movie about the refuge while sitting in an airboat. It was cool. We walked around the pond and Ol' Eagle Eye spotted something green. It turned out to be a frog. Thank goodness, no snakes! After looking at the map and talking to the ranger, we decided to drive to the actual refuge which was 19 miles away.
