For Girls Only, no twist, 52 weeks,25/52, Volume Scrapping. VLB, Compliment Corner. Journaling reads: Forty year old memories, old friendships, and new friendships were renewed and formed on June 14, 2014, Flag day. From 1969 to 1974 I was a 7th and 8th grade English teacher at Thomas Junior High School in South Philadelphia. I was twenty two and right out of college and my students were 12 years old, About 8 years ago, before I was on facebook, one of my students found me through a search engine and called me. About a year or two later I joined facebook and friended many of my old students. Recently, about three months ago another student contacted me on facebook and through her I found many others that I have not seen or heard from in 40 years. Everyone always says we will get together but frequently it never happens. I decided to have a luncheon at my house on June 14th. Most of the women were local from PA and NJ but one woman flew up from Florida. When they walked through my front door they were no longer 12 and 13 year old girls but lovely, wonderful women with forty years of life between the last time I saw them and now. One of the women, many of which had not seen each other since high school graduation, described it as a dream. Some say it was like time travelling, We all got to recall old memories , the girls who were not popular in junior high reveled in the opportunity and the comfort of sitting at the table with the popular girls. One woman told me afterward that the afternoon healed some childhood wounds. Now we were all equals, even me, their teacher who was just out of college when I taught them. They all described the memories in my classroom as their fondest memories and many told me that they credited me with their love of reading and some still saved some of the books that we read back then. They remembered the books we read, the writing assignments I gave them, the field trips we took. They stayed for five hours, but I didn't want it to end. The next day we reconvened on facebook. Everyone thanked me for opening my home and heart to them. There were a few women found me on facebook that day who I didn't know were on there and I have dinners out planned with two of them. Someone asked "where were the boys", and someone answered " they are still in detention."
