This rather confusing image was taken in Catherine's Palace in St Petersburg, in a room full of gilt, mirrors, and windows. It is a self portrait, in one of the mirrors, hence the “through the looking glass” aspect but the mirror was flanked by large windows through which you can catch glimpses of the garden outside hence also“ through the window”. there was also a window in the wall behind me which is reflected in the mirror, so you get through the window, through the mirror happening too. As a self portrait, it is kind of a failure IMO because, as a subject I am not very large or clear, but as an exercise in confusing the eye with mirrors and windows, I think it is fun.
