Journaling:Lake Devereaux and Viking Boats…archery….friends…Syke…Camp St. Albans had it all. I remember the very first time I got to go. It wasn’t even with my own troop. My mom was invited to go as a stand in leader with another troop and they let me tag along too. We were only brownies at the time so I don’t think you could really call what we did “camping”. We got to sleep in the brand new Pixie units that had hot running water, toilets that flushed and power; though the hike down to our cooking area was something else. That was the trip that I met the girls that would become my very best friends through the rest of my Girl Scout years, and our subsequent trips to camp would not be nearly as swanky. We would stay in three sided shelters where there would be drop ins from a raccoon, at least we think it was a raccoon…I don’t think we ever found out exactly what that was. Then there would be our last trip as a troop; the one where we decide to really rough it and stay in Mountaineer aka the farthest camp site out …the one with an outdoor latrine, cold water and a dock that we decided to shave our legs off of…that would be my first memory of hard core razor burn. In 2010 St. Albans celebrated 75 years, and I truly hope that someday we make it back to Washington and I can send Maddie on her way to make her own memories of Camp St. Albans. Who knows, I may even go with her…but only if we get to stay in Pixie!Lift of Color Fall by Melissa LewisSummer Camp by Sahlin Studio & Kate HadfieldOn My Honor by Jacque Larsen & Lauren ReidThe Pencil & The Serifs Sister by Heather HessMarkerific by CD Muckosky
