For this project I wanted to try out a new set of Heidi Swapp stencils. I was surprised when I opened the package and found background stencil used in photo 1 is different than other stencil I have used. It is not flat but rather it looks like it was created in a mold with each line having a convex surface and the opposite side is concave. So I had to give it a try. I followed the SND instructions. The top side of the stencil didn't hold the ink so well and created a thin line of ink so of course I flipped it over…Voila! The ink stayed nicely in the plastic wells and the mist provided a great watercolor look. I stamped the birds on a branch and feathers. The other stencil is a more typical flat plastic..it has a bird sitting on a branch with leaves and leaves above. The 3rd piece is a mask with the reverse of this image. To create a background I used only the leaves on the mask. There was either a problem with adding too much water and/or perhaps the plastic had some oil on the surface (I didn't think to check before starting). Nonetheless the result was very blended ink but not not very controlled. So I went ahead as Howdyheidi suggested and used it as the background. The ATC took on a very artsy look. Heidi, thanks for the fun!
