This is a birthday card for a friend who recently acquired an antique auto. I was trying to match the color of his “new” car without actually having seen it. He had emailed me a photo, and I had printed it out; the two versions were not the same. His wife gave me her take on the color. I must have colored this image a dozen times (no exageration). I tried stamping it in various colors and inks. I stamped it in black and colored with watercolors, markers, and pencils. It looked best to me with the colored pencils. He received the card today and said the color was right on. Isn't he a sweetheart! I suspect it's too bright, but when I went to replace this car with one I'd colored with marker in a darker plum color, the card looked kind of blah so I kept the bright car. I added some silver that wasn't on the stamp in keeping with the car in the photo. You can probably tell that I drew in the spokes. lol.
CARD: 5“ x 7” Card Base: Stampin' Up! Kraft cardstock
Mat: Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil (pressed into scrap piece of corrugated cardboard with fingers, spray painted with Rustoleum Matte Black paint, sanded, removed from cardboard and attached to black cardstock that had been run through the Xyron machine to apply adhesive)
Background: (The idea for this background isn't mine. I saw it in gwendolyn46's gallery at splitcoaststampers. http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/2352852?&cat=500&ppuser=214241. [splitcoaststampers.com] Gwendolyn used craft black paint, and she put the piece through the Big Shot. I used the Cuttlebug at first, but then found that it was easier to just press the foil down with my hands. Hmmm. Looking back at Gwendolyn's card right now, I definitely like the more rugged look of her background piece. Maybe putting it through the embossing machine helps to make it more irregular and interesting. I'll definitely try this again. )
Stamps: Art Impression (cars); Hero Arts (sentiment)
