Tuesday – May 7th – Another Greek port today! We are in Heraklion or Iraklion on the Island of Crete.

I've always heard how gorgeous Crete is but we were not impressed with the downtown part we saw today. We took the hop-on hop-off bus but there wasn't much to see in this area. The only place we got off was at the old castle/fort but did not find out until we got off the bus and walked to the fort that it is not open for tours so we just walked around part of the structure.

Next we walked to the street with all the souvenir markets and we each bought a hat in the One Euro store. I got a pretty pink straw hat and Bill got a fedora-style gray hat. Boy, is it hot in Crete!

We got back to the ship and hour and a half early because there really wasn't anything else to do. We were so pleased to be greeted by the gangway with icy-cold wet rolled washcloths along with ice cold water and lemonade served under a shaded tent! Thank you Holland America!
