This is the library in Ephesus - the ruins are in remarkably good shape!

The large double matted picture is from a guide book because it was so much better than mine (the rest of the photos on the page.)

The library was a meeting/social place with a lot of activity going on in the area in front of the library - vendors used to set up markets there and it was a place to socialize.

If you notice in the very lower right there is what appears to be a log. Actually it is an opening to a tunnel leading to the brothel across the street.

While the families were visiting and talking to vendors the men could crawl into the log and disappear, spend time at the brothel and return without the family knowing where he had been, it just appeared he had been separated from them in amongst all the people and activity in front of the library!

I didn't notice it before but in the lower right picture there is even a low wall that would have kept him from public view while going into the log or tunnel/passageway.
