Experience has taught me to take a photo the night before if possible because the moon may not be visible on the night of the full moon which was the case this month. [P2024242]

The Native American tribes had names for each month's full moon. February's full moon is called the "Snow Moon". Usually the heaviest snows fall in this month each year. Hunting becomes very difficult, and hence to some tribes this was the Full Hunger Moon. Other names include the Opening Buds Moon, Storm Moon, The Trapper's Moon, and Snow Blinding Moon. The Lakota Sioux called it the Moon of the Dark Red Calves. February's full moon was known as the Big hoop and Stick Game Moon by the Cheyenne.
