Oh I do love stories!!!! Your family car story mimics mine to a certain extent. ( I was never given the old car). I love how you showcased the model and made the story the most important thing.
Wonderful story and so interesting! We didn't have a car at all as a family until I was 8 or 9 - I think they were hugely more expensive in the UK (and of course the fuel!) but this was so fun to read.
Your journalling is just terrific! What a wonderful story - typical dad giving you a car that was too embarrassing to drive, and then the follow up with the exchange for a typewrite - so fun! I love all the bits you wove into the story - your first job, and the distance to school and the cost etc - this is what scrapbooking is all about. I just bought a typewriter on evilbay - my grandchildren are struck dumb by a machine that can print at the same time as you write! Haha!
Nylene - love seeing a photo of you and your husband! I really enjoyed your typewriter story. I remember taking a typing class in middle school and they also had large manual typewriters with no characters on the keys. I loved typing - still do. Btw, our parents uprooted us and moved us to a different city the summer before I was going into 6th grade, a very big deal. To help ease the transition, they offered to buy me anything I wanted. I asked for a typewriter. Lol!! You just reminded me of the story. :)
Love your story. I was never very good at typing but with my computer keyboard I do ok and Im so glad we have spell check!!! Soo glad we no longer use those old type writers :o)Ro
Loved reading your story!! Love the car for a typewriter ending! Reminded me of my dh buying me my current car. The day after he bought it for me, I sent him an Edible Arrangements (fruit). The card read: Fruit for a car! Sounds fair. LOL
You made me want to write about my first car...my dad bought it for me in 65 ..a 54 pontiac..my friends called her the crusher...it was huge and I was always trying to drive it with the emergency brake on. I hated it as it was just a big tank but once my guy friends decided it was cool..then I liked it. Thanks for bringing back memories...loved reading about your typewriter and car...great stories and layouts and love the photos.
OMGosh a 1949 Ford (sigh)! We girls all drooled over the guys who drove them! I loved reading about your experiences with it, they could be a bit cranky i'll admit. Terrific page. You brightened my day!
Wonderful journaling, I love to read about the OLD, but loved items. Yes the grinding of a stick shift, and putting along. I never got to drive my Dad's old red truck but sure had fun with him
Oh yes, the wonderful times we look back on. For me, I remember the manual typewriter and NO whiteout. Our fingers got a workout on the old typewriters.
