I mentioned I was working on a ancestry notebook for my cousin Rachel. This is her dad who served in the European Theatre during WW2 for 18 months. Interestingly, he had his appendix removed during basic and didn't get to ship out with his unit. For this reason, he arrived late and after the unconditional surrender of Germany, he was selected to served in the Honor Guard unit to guard the Allied Headquarters. The Honor Guard wears the white belt and gloves. It's said that Eisenhower liked the discipline it took to keep those white gloves clean!
