Made for the July Round Robin at Swirlydoos, following Paula (Luv46kdz)'s gorgeous design.
During World War II, families displayed blue stars in their windows, indicating the number of family members in active service. My Grandma Darby displayed three stars for her three sons: Jack and Paul who were in the Army and Vincent who was in the Merchant Marines. The Gold Star was given for each family member who died in the war. The Gold Star in the image (and my title), was for my Uncle Jack who died in April, 1945, in Berka Germany. This photo of my Grandmother and Uncle were probably taken in 1942, during leave before being shipped overseas.
