Rosita's sister teaches special needs kids and they sent me a flat Stanley from the US! I photographed him with the nurses in our staff room and with the lake in the background before I sent him back. Great fun! A wonderful bright lo with a great story.
This is such a cute theme! I haven't heard of Flat Stanley in years. When my boys were in elementary school, they did participate in the Flat Stanley project. That project was basically a pen pal type of thing. Flat Stanley was mailed to a Pen Pal (another home school student in the online home school support group) and he lived with this family for a week. During that week, they would take him on adventures where they lived (to parks, tourist attractions, etc.) and take photographs of him in these places. His "scrapbook" of his adventures were his suitcase that accompanied him. He was then mailed out to the next family. After several months, he eventually made it back "home" to where he began. Each child in each family of the group had to make their own flat Stanley's.
This all began with an idea of having " Flat Lucy" so named by another member of the group, accompany us on the trip from Florida to Las Vegas. Unfortunately we started out well.........but we kept leaving her in the room so she did not have many photos taken with us throughout the four days. But the truth is...she was a take off on Flat Stanley...which all of my grandchildren had to do in school as a project...so i was very familiar with Flat Stanley. the books that Jo brought for us, are wonderful and tell the entire story. I will get the layouts of Flat Lucy done soon. Who would have thought this could turn into such a fun thing. Thanks to Jo for bringing the books, and for reading aloud....to Donna for this wonderful Layout......and for all who had their photo taken with Flat Lucy. To be seen later. LOL
What a great LO idea. Love that you got a pic of Jo reading and one of the book cover and scrapped this sweet and simple memory from your trip. Sometimes it's those little moments that make the best LO pages!
What a fun LO! My DGD1 had a Flat Stanley in K or 1st grade, they made a FS and then we mailed him to family and friends, who then sent him back with stories and pictures of his adventures while with them. I had never heard of FS before that and am now wondering how he came about- looks like I need to pay Google a visit! Really a fun and unique thing to do on your trip! I like the page you made for it.
This is a wonderful page, Donna, and for some reason, I missed out on Josie's reading of Flat Stanley. Was I taking a nap! I love the photo of Jo reading the book. The teacher in her shines through. Excellent job on this!
Thank you, Donna, for all of your kindness! I love reading aloud!! Your layout is great! The colors you chose are just perfect!! I really like how you used the cover of the book as part of the page. Wonderful!!
great Flat Stanley page.. It was so interesting when that topic came up and you and I learned we did not know Flat Stanley. I was so impressed with Josie putting on her teacher hat and reading to us... very heartwarming and fun. And then to get a book from her; a treasure. I love that you used primary colors and that notebook paper punch is perfect.. you are a master dear Donna.
I love the LO.....your story is totally right on target!!!! And all of the kids over the years who have had Flat Stanley projects...will LOVE this one. There must be thousands at this point. Once a teacher ....always a teacher I think. Doesn't she just look like she is ready to a class of small children????? LOL What fun we had......I am so grateful to have not missed it!!! LOL Your page is a trip right down memory lane......beautiful and heartwarming. Thanks Donna!!!!
You and your family may have grown up with Flat Stanley, but I knew nothing about him until I met Jo here on Rockin' Scrappin' Grans. Stanley woke up one day after a huge bulletin board fell on him. He was flat. Instead of being upset, he went on to do many wonderful deeds. Jo brought us each a copy and read to us after lunch one day. It was really a delightful experience and one of the highlights of my Vegas trip. Thanks for looking.
