I don't think I could have handled this idea of people lifting me like that. Of course though, I wasn't trying to climb steps in the heat and humidity.
always such beautiful carvings in India. I love those archaeological site tickets - I have a couple of them - I thought they were as good as any postcards!
What a neat looking sculpture at the entrance. I might have been tempted to be carried too - only because of the heat and humidity. I would need a lot of water.
There were no handrails on any part but there were vendor areas set up all the way on both sides and there were low walls we could use for balance. All the cobblestone was difficult to walk on.
There were straight-backed chairs on wooden platforms with 2 poles attached underneath each one and if you wanted to pay to be carried up (approximately $20.00 in US money but more for people who weighed above average), 4 men would put the poles on their shoulders and hurry up the stairs so no walking was required.
I was tempted to let them carry me up the steps but decided that since everyone else in our group was walking, I would walk too.
We did see one man being carried up the stairs and back down again but he had a cane and would not have been able to walk up them and back down.
The photo to the right was at the entrance before going up the steps to the caves - not one of the cave carvings.
