This is for Angelica's 'other half' challenge

This is my other half Neil - my best friend, my hero, my soul mate - we have known each other since we were 7 and have been a couple since we were 17

Sorry for the lengthy journalling but it is incredibly important to our lives - I want our children to grow up knowing how strong their daddy has been and what a special man he is :

At thirty years old - you suffered a particularly nasty virus that made you incredibly sick, you had a temperature of 105 deg F and nothing we could do would take it down, you became delirious and bedbound for a week - the doctors told us you had a virus and to keep you cool and to give you paracetamol for your pounding head and temperature, you lost all sense of balance and your left arm and leg became unpredictable and numb. Eventually the sickness subsided and the temperature came down, you gained a little of the lost weight and became a little stronger but that was not the end of it, you were left with a completely numb arm and leg - as a result you felt clumsy and found balance hard. You have been through so many struggles with your illness, there have been many, many more symptoms and you were not diagnosed for 5 years - it took the specialists that long and numerous tests and scans (none of which were pleasant) to figure out that the Myelin sheath around your spine had been damaged by the virus and that your symptoms would never fully go away - they put a name to it Transverse Myelitis. It felt good to know they actually had an idea what you were suffering from but it devastated me to know that the man I loved was suffering from an incurable and limiting condition. You have held down a full-time job and you play with the kids, you go to the gym and look after your health - you live life to the full like you always have done. I see the bad days, I see the pain, the frustration, my heart breaks for you because you are so brave, to most people who know you there is no outward sign of a problem, you look like the same old Neil. I notice the little stumbles as your leg misbehaves when you are tired, the paleness of your face when the days are particularly hard, the difficulty in doing things other people take for granted - like cutting your meat on your plate or doing anything intricate with your fingers. I notice these things but I don't see a disability - I see determination, strength, bravery. I love you with all my heart - your kindness, patience and loving nature have never been altered by your experience and your fun-loving nature and sense of humour remain in tact. I am so proud of you. You are my soul mate, my best friend, my everything.

Thankyou for looking and reading
