When we got to the entrance we were directed to an escalator down to get a black abaya for me and a white abaya for Bill (Although there are different names for the men's and women's garments, the Oxford Dictionary says that “abaya”, pronounced aba-YA', is the Arab name for the long garments worn by men and women.)

The escalator ended at the bottom in the parking lot and we had to walk across parking spaces to get to a room where the men went one way to get their abayas and the women had to go in another direction to get theirs.

Then we went back up the escalators and stopped to remove our shoes. Then we were allowed to proceed to the mosque courtyard and into the mosque.
