This is so heartwarming but sad (and maddening...The mean dogs) and so beautifully written. I am glad you posted something recently and am sorry I missed seeing it when you posted it. I kept looking for layouts from you and had all but given up. I hope you are doing well..I know you had such sadness in your life...I know I can't scrap unless life is good. So if I take a vacation from it, it is usually due to stress. I hope you will start posting again...miss your lovely layouts.
Gorgeous LO and sweet tribute to Cowboy (as I type through tears), I love that you have his paw print, a tuft of his fur, and of course you have a treasure chest of memories!!
This is a beautiful tribute to little Cowboy. I love what you have said. The flower arrangement is awesome. Thanks for the idea. I don't have animals, I have furry, scaly, pinching family members.
Oh I am so sorry for your loss - your story brought tears to my eyes. This layout is a beautiful tribute to Cowboy. I love that you have his paw print and hair tuft.
R.I.P Just A Little Cowboy November 18, 2005 - June 26, 2015
This past June, Cowboy was minding his own business in his own yard when the neighbor's five dog pack came trolling through. Defending his yard, Cowboy chased them to the edge of the yard where the tables turned and they jumped him in masse. I'm pretty sure that Cowboy thought the fight was fair, but the numbers were against him and they not only tore him to ribbons, but they managed to drag him across the street to my other neighbor's cow pasture.
He was badly injured when i found him, and I knew it was bad, and I knew it was probably going to be fatal, but I did my best to get him to the emergency vet, where someone could take care of him. He knew I was there, and he knew that I was trying my best to fix what was wrong with him. He tried hard to stay with me, but he just couldn't get it done. He went into shock and cardiac arrest a short time later.
We buried him in "Good Dog Field," down by the creek under the redbuds, next to his "Uncle Bobby" and my border collie Trouble. He's in excellent company.
He was a little dog with a big heart and he left a huge hole in mine, and while I'm really really sad, I'm also ok about it. He was 10 years old, with a life expectancy of 11-13, and he was beginning to slow down quite a bit - spending more time sleeping in the sun and a little slow to get up and get moving in the mornings. So the truth is, it was coming sooner than I wanted it to anyway. You're never ready to let go of anybody you love, even when it's your pet, but Cowboy would have been the first one to tell me that he went out on his own terms - a small lion defending his family and his home.
He was a happy dog and he had a long and good life with us. And now, he's waiting for me on the other side - where I bet Jesus is letting him sleep on the bed. I'll have to change that when I get there. Corgis shed. Corgis shed a LOT, and I don't want dog hair in my sheets in heaven.
The photo is from one of our day trips - this one to Blue River - and the paw print and hair tuft were done before we buried him. I love the photo. It helps me imagine him off on just another grand adventure.

The neighbor's dogs? They were impounded. None of them were neutered, and as a pack with a history of killing, they are now considered a threat to the local livestock. We've been dealing with this particular neighbor for several years about his negligent pet-care, so I'm not sorry, but I'm just so mad that it took MY dog losing his life before the sheriff finally acted.
