The day of Pentecost also took place in this same upper room - 50 days after Jesus Christ was crucified and approximately 10 days after he ascended into heaven.

The New Testament tells us that 120 were gathered (Acts 1:15). Eleven apostles were among them (Acts 1:13) and Jesus' mother, brother and sisters were among them (Acts 1:14). There were at least 2 more people who had followed Jesus since He was baptized by John the Baptist (Acts 1:21) and other followers totaled the number to 120. Jesus was with them and they had been eating and praying together (Acts 1:6).

"When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven." Acts 2:1-5.

The glory, being filled with the Spirit prompted them to speak in tongues (languages they did not learn (Acts 2:4). The Holy Spirit came upon them and entered into the Apostles, and the Apostles spoke in tongues to their Jewish brethren. They were baptized in the Holy Spirit (immersed). And the Body of Christ officially began with preaching to their brethren.
