Great performance photos and photos of the audience too. So wonderful that you are able to share all this with your LO viewers. I really enjoyed reading what you were thinking about at the time... lots of neat memories included in your journaling as always. One definite wording issue I saw was that "dances" should appear behind the phrase "... performed some traditional Turkish DANCERS...". Also, in the last sentence, you might consider changing the "make" to something like "create" since you already said "made" a shortly before that.
What a humbling moment to share a seat with someone from 3,000 years ago....luckily you had the cushion, they probably didn't. haha What an amazing experience to see the first performance there in the last 10 years. I hope you recorded it too.
At 8:30 we all went into the Great Theater with is a large ancient outdoor amphitheater which is said to seat 25,000 people! They had even put a cushion at every place in the theater to sit on so no one would have to sit on the old rock benches and additional blankets were handed out.
In the opening speech given by the CEO of Holland America, Stein Kruse, we were told that the old city of Ephesus is 3,000 years old and this is the first time a concert has been performed here in over 10 years! I was just fascinated with the thought that I was sitting in a seat that someone else had been sitting in 3,000 years ago!
First the Folkloric dancers performed some traditional Turkish dancers and then it was time for the performance by the Algean Chamber Orchestra ! We learned that they only play at one or two private events a year and this was the only time they would be playing for a private party this year!
As we sat there surrounded by all this history and beauty I must admit that my mind did keep flashing back to the early days of Ephesus, particularly those days when Paul and John would have been preaching on the street corners. John, the apostle, is buried on a hill in Ephesus very close to the old city (we visited his grave the last time we were here).
Once again I was mesmerized by all the rich Biblical history surrounding me in this old city of Ephesus and tonight I kept reflecting back on that as I listened to the orchestra.
To see Ephesus at night with the library and other events illuminated in soft lighting and hear the beautiful music of the Algean Chamber Orchestra along with all the other touches made by Holland America to make this a Night to Remember, the only word I can find to describe this evening – it was amazing!
