Tunnel to Whittier Opens, Alaska

The tunnel to Whittier for automobiles and trains opened in June 2000. The unique design of the tunnel allows a single lane of automobile traffic to drive directly over the railroad tracks to and from the town of Whittier. You can see the photos, a Alaska Railroad train entering the tunnel. We went through a few minutes later. It was a tad bumpy as you can tell by the fussy photos inside the tunnel. Thanks so much for looking.
