Putnam Park in Redding is a Revolutionary War Historical Site. Known as "Connecticut's Valley Forge", it's where General Israel Putnam's division of the Continental Army camped out during the Winter of 1778-79. It was a central location - close to West Point, the Hudson River, The Danbury Supply Depot, which the British had burned the year before but was rebuilt to supply Washington's Army. (Here's the link for the full history of the park -http://putnampark.org/park-history/). The book "My Brother Sam is Dead" is set at Putnam Park and is one of the books we read at school in Ct.

We've gone to Putnam Park ever since I was little. There are 2 sides to the park - the Bethel side, (the side my parents always went to) is more of a park with a playground, barbeque grill stands and a nature walk in the woods w/ a pond. The Redding side is the one we always go to - there's a large obelisk when you first walk up the hill. It has the names of the Generals that had come through the area. I will link one of my pics to it later. There are different sites that you can view on the walk around the park, including cannons, the Cemetery, Captain's Quarters, the remains of the troop housing, the pond, and the Hermit's Cave.

The pic in my layout is of my daughter sitting on the cannon. She and Andy love to walk through Putnam Park and see the different sites. They like to try and catch frogs in the pond. We love Putnam Park for the history and it's importance to Ct and to our hometown in Danbury, but it's gorgeous there. It always feels like home to us, our Safe Haven. We can go there and just feel at peace and grateful for our lives. Sappy, but it's true. We love it there.
