Friday, January 17th, 2014 – Quiet day at sea – nothing special. We had an excellent class with Craig, the Holland America Techspert today.

Yesterday afternoon I took my computer to him (brand new – still in the box - Bill and Joe gave it to me for Christmas a few weeks ago) and he helped me set it up and installed Microsoft Photo Gallery for me. He also set up my screen saver slide show and helped me customize my metro page and desktop screen saver.

Today his class was on using the Desktop of Windows 8 (8.1). It is very comparable to Windows 7 – I had the attitude that I was very proficient with Windows 7 but I learned a lot – I'm not as proficient at Windows 7 as I thought I was! I'm really starting to get the hang of Window 8.1 – I am starting to love it!

After dinner we went to the comedy show starring Rick Starr who performs in Las Vegas and has even appeared at Carnegie Hall. Very few comedians make us laugh like he did! He was excellent.

He did a routine about going back to his 50th kindergarten class reunion and it was hysterical. He said they all had milk and graham crackers and then took a nap. Then they all talked about how they had all learned to tie their own shoe laces. After that they sang their class song, “I'm a Little Teapot”. Then he invited the audience to stand up and sing it with him and I think every person in the audience was singing “I'm a little Teapot”. He said, “At our next kindergarten reunion we are going to sing “Itsy Bitsy Spider”. Then he asked us to practice and people all over the auditorium were doing the “Itsy Bitsy spider” movements with their fingers as they sang.

I don't think I've ever witnessed a comedian engage the audience like he did. Tremendous show.

After the show Bill, Jan and I went to the front desk and wrote a note to Rick (the comedian) inviting him to have dinner with us at our table in the dining room the next night. We didn't expect him to accept but we though it would be fun if he did.

Back to our cabin – not only did we find a towel animal and 2 chocolates, but we each got a nice book called “Easter Island – A Concise Guide to the History, Culture and Individual Archaeological Sites of Rapa Nui”. While skimming through our books I happened to notice that mine was signed inside by the author. I thought it was a stamp at first but when I compared the autograph on Bill's copy – they are slightly different so they were each hand signed.

Saturday, January 18th, 2014 – We were sound asleep when our phone rang at 10:00 this morning. It was Rick Starr accepting our invitation to have dinner with us tonight.

We had a normal day at sea and a delightful dinner in the dining room. Rick sat between Jan and me and we really enjoyed sharing travel stories with him!

He sometimes does his comedy routines at the Villages which is near where we live so we want to try to catch his show again sometime!
