Wednesday, February 5th, 2014 – Lautoka, Fiji – Even though we had been to Fiji in 2010, we had not been to this side of the island before.

When we got off the ship we were once again greeted with the words “Bula Bula” which is the way the Fijians greet and welcome each other as well as tourists. It was over shop doors and posted everywhere. We remembered that last time when we walked around Fiji the locals all greeted us with “Bula Bula”. It is pronounced Boolah Boolah.

We went to several of the tents where people were selling tours to find the best tour for the best price and found they were all $30-$40 each. Bill talked to one man and he said his tour was $40 but his bus was almost loaded and was getting ready to leave. However, there were 2 empty seats so we could have them for $25 each. Bill told him we wanted 2 for $25 or $12.50 each and the man agreed and sold us our tickets at that price. He said not to tell the other passengers but he didn't need to tell us that - we know not to say anything when we get a great deal.

Once on the bus there was a mutiny. One woman said she was told she was going to the gardens and someone else said they were told we were going to the village.

We had been asked where we wanted to go and after we selected a few places, we were told that the bus would take us there. What confusion. They had a list of possible places to go and everyone got to pick places of their choice - they were told that it was included in the tour – we would be going there. There was no way the bus could take us to all those places in one day!

Then the real mutiny began. One woman stood up and said she and her husband paid $40 each for their tickets and were sitting next to people who paid $20 each. Someone else said they paid $30 each and someone else said he and his wife paid $35 each. We kept our mouths shut – we didn't want to announce that we paid $12.50 each!

Then we were all told there would be a separate entrance fee to get in some of the places. Everyone was mad because we were told the price included all the entrance fees.

It got so bad that passengers started saying, “Pull over, we want our money refunded and then take us back to the ship!”
