i love to see these kinds of markets. Really such a sharp contrast from how we live. I bet everything is amazingly fresh...although maybe not by the end of the day
I'm laughing so much at the photo of the trumpet shell Bill is holding. Do you know how many of those shells I have seized? Hundreds. LOL! I am so intrigued at the market place. Thee are a huge amount of people selling. I really like the lady frying fish. Did you have some? I would have tried some. I bet it was fresh and delicious.
After we left village we went to an outdoor market where the locals buy their meat and produce. Fish and vegetables were sold from blankets on the ground. I thought at first that they had set this up for the tourists but that was not the case – we could not take these things back on the ship because of quarantine regulations, plus our food is supplied for us on the ship. This is the market where people from the villages buy their food and vegetables.
In one photo Bill is holding up a seashell. They drill a hole on one side and blow into the shell to make a sound much like blowing into the end of a conch shell. The shell in Bill's hand went home with me – I think the price was equivalent to about a quarter but Bill gave them a dollar and they were thrilled.
