Then she took us down the hall and into the living room! It was huge – and absolutely beautiful. All of the furniture in the suite was reproduced since the entire floor was destroyed when people were trying to kill Douglas MacArthur only to strike when he was not there. (Two chairs were the only furniture pieces that survived and they are are on display in his office in this suite – nothing else could be salvaged.)

We were still feeling very special at the royal treatment we were being given, especially since we were not hotel guests. Throughout the tour our guide kept having us pose for pictures and made sure the photos tuned out well before handing our camera back to us!

The next room she showed us was the formal dining room which seated 16 people. On one wall was a huge glass shadow box with replicas of all his medals. Many of the paintings and portraits were original because they were not damaged in the attack.

A china cabinet displays, among other things, a military hat that is believed (but not confirmed) to be his – it was found on his bed after he left.
