This is the type of LO you do that I just love. You document all aspects of the places you visit. The way they sell gasoline is unique and a little dangerous, don't you think? LOL! The shrines are beautiful. The other thing you do that I like is capture the people. Sometimes they are just doing everyday things but like this one, they are doing something unique and wonderful. Thanks so much for the journey.
These are a few photos we took around Phuket today. Top pictures: It always amazes me to see how gasoline is sold in so many Asian countries. The main mode of transportation is by scooter, and when they need a fill-up, they just pull to the side of the road barely getting out of the lane of traffic! Stands like these line the roadsides though out Asia. The more sophisticated ones (like the one on the left) have an actual gas pumps, although rather primitive. But most stands just have bottles of gasoline on a rack or shelves, as shown in the photo on the right.
Buddhism is a common religion in Thailand as evidenced by all the statues of Buddha including the giant Buddha which sits on a mountain top and can be seen for miles around. Buddhist shrines, like the two in the lower left are everywhere. In the middle of sidewalks, on the side of the roads, in front of stores and restaurants, on the beach. These shrines can even be seen standing in the middle of rice paddies.
I was fascinated watching the women in the lower right carve intricate patterns in the pineapple. It was quite an art!
