Barbara is the Location Specialist for the Amsterdam. We've sailed with her many times and have actually become friends with her on the ship.
She talks about retiring and I tell her to bite her tongue!
It wouldn't be the same on the ships without her giving the port lectures and being at her desk to help us plan our shore excursions.
She is always at the bottom of the gangway when we get off the ship to answer last minute questions about what to do, how to catch local transportation, and where are the best places to eat!
Dolly is probably the most well known Holland American passenger. Although she is in her mid-late 90's, she literally lives on the ship (except for a few weeks every year when it is in dry dock.) I asked her how many World Cruises she had been on and she said she lost count after 23 but thinks this is probably the 27th. She said it doesn't make any difference to her, she lives on the ship anyway.
She married young, her husband died when she was in her early 20's.and she never remarried. Says she is married to HAL (Holland America Lines.
After her husband died she educated herself and became a successful architect.
