Wednesday, April 16th, 2014 – Today is our second day in Mindelo, Cape Verde. We saw everything that we wanted to see yesterday, and more, so today the only thing on the agenda was to find a good internet connection.

I couldn't believe it when I looked in the mirror when I got up this morning and saw how red my face is – I knew I got a lot of sun yesterday riding for 6 hours on the back of the pickup truck but I didn't expect to look like a lobster! I haven't had this much color on my face since we were in Athens last year. What is surprising is that Bill's face is redder than mine and that never happens. He looked bright red yesterday but mine wasn't too red until this morning. However, he will start to turn brown tomorrow and I will most likely continue to stay red and then all the color will quickly fade or I may start peeling in a couple days.

After catching up on email and Facebook, we found a street vender with locally made craft jewelry and Bill bought me a necklace with alternating black beads and pieces of shark vertebrae. Very unique and very African-looking; I love them! I'm not sure but I think that makes about 10 sets of African beads and 2 pairs of African earrings. I've never been attracted to the African beads and jewelry before but these are really fun pieces! And they are mostly neutral colored and will go with half the things in my closet at home!

Now we are headed on the trans-Atlantic part of our voyage and will reach our first Caribbean port after 5 sea days.

Thursday, April 17th, 2014 – Quiet and uneventful day at sea. Bill played chess most of the day and I worked on pictures on the computer from the last port.

After dinner that night we were surprised to find a Stieff teddy bear for each of us with the Holland America logo of the ship on one of his feet. They are so cute in their little sailor shirts. I was very surprised at the quality – they are really nice. Bill suggested we give one to each granddaughter but I told him that one was mine and I was keeping it.

They both have so many stuffed animals that the Holland America teddy bear would not mean all that much to them.

Saturday, April 19th, 2014 – Uneventful day at sea. We did well in the mid-day trivia but the evening one – not so good.
