Although the title of this LO and the first three words of the quote are the same, the title refers to a Barbra Streisand song and the quote is one I found a long time ago.

On the pullout journaling card behind the larger picture, I put a note to my DD explaining what the title “If I Could” means to me (probably pretty much what it meant to Ms Streisand when she sang it to her son Jason and what most mother’s feel about their children).

‘If I Could’ is one of my favorite songs. It expresses a mother’s desire to shelter her child through the coming years but knowing she can’t. If you’ve never heard it, you can find the lyrics on the internet or listen to Barbra sing it on YouTube. Beautiful song. This verse I think is my favorite:
if I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
but the part of life I gave you isn't mine
I've watched you grow
so I could let you go
