More of our 2014 to Vicksburg. These papers are old stash - in fact they are "technically" Christmas/winter papers - Authentique "Peaceful" and Collage Press Doubletake "Scrooge & Marley". I remember when I got them I felt I could use them on other pages and I have saved them.

Journaling: "We continued our drive, coming to Grant Circle near to where Grant's headquarters was located. There are five state memorials located on Grant Circle – Rhode Island, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.
Statue of Ulysses S. Grant
The New York Memorial is a granite obelisk standing 43-feet tall. It was dedicated on October 17, 1917, during the Memorial Reunion and Peach Jubilee celebration held at the park.

The Pennsylvania Memorial consists of a granite shaft placed at the back of an elliptical platform. There are bronze reliefs of the five unit commanders from Pennsylvania who fought at Vicksburg - Curtin, Brenholtz, Hartranft, Leasure, Durell. Columns flanking the monument feature sculptures of Andrew Curtin, Governor of Pennsylvania during the war, and General John Parke of the 9th Army Corps. The memorial was dedicated in March 1906.

Inscription reads: “Here brothers fought for their principles. Here heroes died for their country and a united people will forever cherish the precious legacy of their noble manhood.”
